Where the beastie sleeps

As promised, some pictures of Kirah's room now that she has her big girl bed. Just a few shots of here and there.

As you can see, she has so much stuff crammed into her little bedroom that I don't even know what we're going to buy her for Christmas this year - there's nowhere to put anything else!

Bugs drawn with window crayons, new bed and comforter, vintage dolls and furniture from thrift stores.

Washi paper balloons, her closet "playhouse", "Ollie" the octopus chair.

An animal tea party, some of her art, "Kitty" who goes EVERYWHERE!

Apple Picking

This past weekend I talked my husband into driving over the mountains to Wenatchee to a u-pick apple farm. I had to bribe him with homemade soft pretzels, but he agreed, and we had a great trip!

With a make-shift clipboard for her coloring pages, little one did wonderfully on the long car ride, and she slept most of the way back. While we were there she had a blast helping pick out the tastiest looking apples, chasing assorted farm animals, and uhh.... digging in the dirt with sticks. :)

It was a long trip for something we could have easily bought in the grocery store near home, and the slight cost difference hardly made up for what we spent in gas, but ohmigosh, these apples are amazing. Right off the tree they taste like straight apple juice - sugary and tart and SO GOOD. Besides that, any chance to show Kirah where her food comes from - to have her meet the people growing her snacks, to see the fruit on the trees, to touch the leaves and hear the noise of the chickens that fertilize the plants - well, it's priceless.

Ooh, it just makes me want to buy a farm and move to the middle of nowhere!

September Mobile

This month we went with something simple to match the colors of Kirah's new big girl bedspread.

Pompoms are easy to make - just fold a piece of paper over a few times and cut into thin strips, stopping about an inch before the top of the paper so that it all stays attached. We used a mix of tissue and construction paper.

Clipped up on our mobile they look light and airy and fun. And to Kirah they look like jellyfish. ^_^

It has just occurred to me that it's been a while since we got her big girl bed and I still haven't posted pictures of it all set up. I'll get to that soon, I promise.

New friends

We have some new friends joining us in our house. Fishies!

They're a neon-colored zebrafish called Glofish.

Can you tell Kirah picked out the tank decorations? Very princess-y.

She also named them all by herself, on the spot. The yellow one is "Bellyrub", the Orange one is "Gaga" and then pink one is "King". Creative girl!

Cowboygirl

Yesterday I mentioned that Kirah's flashlights are part of her "cowboygirl" costume. Just another one of her silly dress-up ideas. She has to have boots, her sun hat, her Hello Kitty Easter basket, and a flashlight or two. Here's the whole look put together:

On this particular day she was putting her horsies down for nap. She pulled out the pillows and blankets, laid them down, and tucked them in herself. What a silly.

I love that she is always finding new ways to play with her old toys.

Preschooler! Oh my.

My baby is now a preschooler.

Thursday was her first day, and she had a blast! Since she's only 2 1/2 we go together one day a week. I'll be sad next year when I have to leave her there!

All ready for school! She had to wear her "kitty pants".

She brought her flashlights with her for the car ride. They're part of her "cowboygirl" outfit. More on that later.

Big Beastie!

It finally happened! Kirah can climb out of her crib all by herself. Thankfully, without getting injured.

I was climbing out of my crib at 18 months, so I guess I should be glad that Kirah lasted a full year longer.

Now then, time for a real bed. We already had a shopping trip planned to IKEA this weekend, so now we'll probably be picking out something lower to the ground for her to sleep in.

As of right now I'm thinking something like this:

and maybe these covers:

But you know I'm prone to changing my mind, so we shall see. Possibly new bedroom pictures to follow too!

Boots and mini boots

As I mentioned before, little whispers of autumn in the air make me crazy for all of the little joys of the season. Starbucks has released their fall beverages (hello again, pumpkin spice my love), it was cold enough to steal my husband's stripey scarf last week, and I'm planning an apple orchard trip with the fam. I'm giddy.

Fall item #3,407,012 that makes me all excitable: boots! I'm on the lookout for some good ones right now. Some ankle boots for me and something cute for everyday for the kidlet. One pair in particular is driving me crazy, but I've got other, more important things to spend money on right now.

Anyway, here are my infatuations:

Villie, Dee Dee, Leaftops, Studded Suede.

Sweater knits, Line Dance, Neon zippers, Elephants.

Love them? Hate them? Got any other pairs I should know about? Comment and let me know ;)
